He had no idea what he was getting himself into.
He stepped out on the sidewalk,
the air damp and the ground still soft beneath him.
He didn’t know that life could change so quickly,
but somehow in a matter of hours,
he was gone.
I saw him laying there innocently,
a shriveled sort of soul,
swallowed by the pavement and
beaten by rays of sun.People walked by on their ways to busy days
full of work and long life,
ignoring the loss as we often do in this world.
Nobody seemed to notice the life that had been lost.
I stopped briefly, sacrificing a moment to contemplate the life that once was.
I stopped and cried for the worm,
once again.
